Uppercut" is a term from boxing. In the 1930s/40s, the young Willy O'Shea earned the nickname "Uppercut O'Shea" when he earned his money boxing as a teenager. In 1930, just 15 years old, he came from Ireland to Sydney and toured Australia for almost ten years, fighting in the boxing ring week after week.
