THE one pomade of THE US country legend singer of the 1950s!
Yes, this is indeed THE favorite pomade of a famous US country singer named Johnny C. The Royal Crown Pomade is soft, but chewy and slightly firmer than the Royal Crown Hair Dressing. It consists of just three ingredients—Vaseline, olive oil, and perfume—provides stable hold, gorgeous shine, and almost creates a fifties quiff by itself! The scent of aftershave and cotton candy is absolutely seductive, albeit very mild. Made in the USA since 1938.
The "Royal Crown Pomade for Men" (formerly "Royal Crown Men's Pomade") is a legendary pomade from Memphis. It has been manufactured in the USA using the same recipe since 1938. In the 1940s, this was the favorite pomade of American heartthrob and pilots. In the 1950s, it shone on the heads of the biggest country and rock 'n' roll stars. Today, it is one of the rarest pomades in the world. It is similar to Royal Crown Hair Dressing, which is a little softer and has a very mild, waxy scent.
In the 1950s, Royal Crown Men's Pomade was so popular that it was used by not only a well-known rock 'n' roll singer, but also by country legend Johnny C. When you put this pomade in your hair and look in the mirror, you realize: Wow, yes, that's his pomade!
The Royal Crown Men's Pomade is a must-have based on its history alone. The fact that it was used by the biggest music stars of the 1950s is an absolute must-have.
The Effect
The "Royal Crown Pomade for Men" is a visual feast alone. It brightens up not only every bathroom, but also every hairstyle.
In the hair itself, it provides excellent, stable hold (similar to a medium-strength hair gel) that lasts all day, and it also offers a truly beautiful shine. It feels and looks almost like hair gel. Like the Royal Crown Hair Dressing, it consists of only three ingredients: petroleum jelly, olive oil, and perfume. The main difference, however, is the sweet scent, which is truly addictive and far too mild!
What hairstyles is this product suitable for?
The Royal Crown Men's Pomade almost creates an Elvis quiff by itself. It gives a beautiful shine in the style of the 1950s and a very stable hold, as seen in celebrity photos of the time. It is perfect for styling and styling, but less so for styling unruly hair. Anyone who likes country and rock 'n' roll stars of the 1950s/60s will love this pomade and, visually alone, will get closer to their idols! For very strong hold or short hairstyles, like crew cuts or flat tops, you should use something stronger, like Murray's Superior, DAX Wave & Groom, Don Draper Strong, or Nu Nile.
For curly hair, Royal Crown gives a beautiful shine and emphasizes the curls, but it's too soft to tame. In those cases, you should opt for firmer pomades, like Black & White, Nu Nile, DAX Green & Gold. Or very firm pomades, like DAX Wave & Groom, Murray's Superior, or those from High Life: High Life Heavy, or the two Voodoo Brew pomades.
Who is this product suitable for?
- For fans of the 1950s/60s
- For fans of country and rock 'n' roll singers (for styling with THE original pomade!!)
- For packaging connoisseurs
The packaging
The Royal Crown Men's Pomade shines like a Las Vegas Christmas tree ornament in the 1950s. Since 1938, this pomade was packaged in a cardboard box until recently. The lid was made of lightweight tin. The base was taken from a tin can and was very sturdy. The overall shape was extremely solid and simply beautiful. The predominant metallic red, the white and green lettering, the stars and crown: all in all, it was an incredibly beautiful package. After being missing for a few years, the pomade has now returned in plastic packaging, as the old cardboard box manufacturer in the USA unfortunately no longer exists. But that doesn't detract from the joy of this unique pomade.
Consistency and Fragrance
The Royal Crown Men's Pomade has a medium, almost firm, consistency. The color looks like a glassy, melted candle wax. But the scent of this pomade is the highlight: it is reminiscent of a mixture. A blend of lavender aftershave and cotton candy. But like a moment of happiness on a beautiful summer night, it reveals itself to the curious nose only once (!). If you want to take a second or third sniff, you don't have a chance - the scent has long since vanished. Once the pomade is in your hair, every gentle - and unfortunately very rare - waft of this fragrance conjures up a smile.
How to use
Take a fingerful of Royal Crown. Rub it between your fingers. Andpreferably after shampooing, massage it into towel-dried hair - from root to tip. Also against the direction of hair growth.
Repeat this 3-4 times and then comb into the desired shape. Of course, the pomade can also be used wonderfully on dry hair.
Styling Tips
1.) If you've moved around too much and a strand of hair has gotten out of place, no problem: just comb through your hair a few times and your style will be back in place.
2.) You can achieve even more shine with a traditional hairbrush, which distributes the pomade better over the hair's surface and gives the style a piano-black look.
The pomade is packaged in a plastic container.

Royal Crown is a brand of J. Strickland & Co., a manufacturer of multicultural hair and skin care products. In 1936, founder George B. Long borrowed $500 to start his own company. His desire was to produce quality products at affordable prices. Among the first products Mr. Long launched were Royal Crown Men's Pomade (a soft, oil-based pomade for men) in 1938 and the slightly softer Royal Crown Hair Dressing (a pomade for young ladies) in 1951. Fans and users of the Royal Crown Pomade in the 1940s included American pilots. And in the 1950s, Royal Crown Hair Dressing—although intended for women—enhanced the pompadours of the era's most famous singers and actors, such as E. P. from Tupelo, Johnny C. from Kingsland, and Little Richard, who even promoted Royal Crown Hair Dressing in a radio commercial. Today, J. Strickland & Co. is a huge company with numerous traditional brands, which fortunately still produces these wonderful pomades.
Today, Royal Crown Pomade and Royal Crown Hair Dressing — along with pomades from Murray's, DAX, Sweet Georgia Brown, and Black & White brands — are THE great classics of American pomades and a unique reminder that keeps the fascinating Rock 'n' Roll era of the 1950s alive.
