Royal Crown – Legendary American Pomades Since the 1930s
Royal Crown is one of the great classics of American pomade culture. The brand belongs to J. Strickland & Co., a long-established manufacturer of hair and skin care products whose story began in 1936.
Founder George B. Long borrowed 500 US dollars to establish his own company. His ambition was to offer quality grooming products at affordable prices. Royal Crown Hair Dressing was among his earliest creations and became a familiar sight in American homes, hair salons and barbershops.
Two Classics for Shine and Smooth Styling
Royal Crown Men’s Pomade is a soft, oil-based pomade created for classic hairstyles with reliable control and elegant shine. The even softer Royal Crown Hair Dressing is particularly suitable for smoothing, conditioning and finishing the hair with a high-gloss appearance.
Both products remain pliable and combable in the hair. This makes them ideal for traditional slick backs, side parts and glossy pompadours inspired by the hairstyles of the 1940s and 1950s.
A Piece of American Rock ’n’ Roll History
Royal Crown was already widely used throughout the United States during the 1940s. In the 1950s, its Hair Dressing became closely associated with the gleaming pompadours of the emerging rock ’n’ roll era. Little Richard even promoted Royal Crown in a historic radio commercial.
Alongside brands such as Murray’s, DAX, Sweet Georgia Brown and Black & White, Royal Crown ranks among the defining classics of traditional American pomade culture. To this day, the brand keeps the spirit of vintage US barbershops and the fascinating rock ’n’ roll era alive.
