Flowery-mossy honey scent of the 1920/30's
A nostalgic old men's fragrance, that leaves a mild powdery scent on the skin. Also popular with ladies. Packaged in a glass bottle with a nostalgic label. From the Czech traditional company Alpa.
1917, the first World War ends, and the Roaring Twenties were just about to start, accompanied by a new fragrance: The fragrance was called "Chypre" named after the island of Cyprus, from which came many ingredients of this perfume - in French "Chypre". This kind of scent was not really new, but with Chypre the french perfumer Francois Coty created a whole new fragrance category. For in the following decades there were chypre fragrances coming up by big perfume houses such as Guerlain, Chanel, Rochas, or Estee Lauder. Even Calvin Klein's CK One from 1994 is a fresh-lemony Chypre scent.
The scent of Alpa Chypre reminds of the Alt-Innsbruck EdC. However Alpa Chypre is much milder, more discreet. The scent is aromatic, yet mild, floral and sweet musky, with a warm, mossy base notes of oak moss and tree moss. The scent does not seem to last all day and soon leaves only a gentle touch of powdery musk and vanilla flavors on the skin.
For whom is the scent
- For fans of romantic, sweet musky fragrances, such as Alt-Innsbruck EdC
- For fans of nostalgic scents
- For men and women
The Alpa Chypre is applied like a typical cologne. A few drops or a splash to the neck, cheeks, or onto the handkerchief. Alpa Chypre is not really suited to be used as an after shave. The contained 80% of alcohol are likely to burn on a freshly shaved skin. Secondly, there are no skin-soothing substances included, such as glycerin, allantoin, or menthol.
The classic massive glass bottle supports the authenticity of this cologne. The label is yellow, with a romantic, brown oval frame and the dancing silhouette of a naked lady in the middle. The wordings "ALPA" and "KOLINSKA VODA" (in czech: Eau de Cologne) are kept in dark green.
CAUTION: Though the Alpa Chypre is great and nostalgic there is a need to point out a couple of ingredients. The Alpa Chypre unfortunately also contains allergens: oak moss and tree moss. As well as substances which are suspected to be carcinogenic: Musk ketone and Musk Xylene. Both are still allowed in the EU and the USA, but only at a maximum concentration of 0.03%. In both these Musk synthetics are at a much smaller dosage, approximately 0.004%.
Packaged in a glass bottle.

The company Alpa a.s. was founded in 1913 in the then Austro-Hungarian monarchy in the Moravian town of Brno. The only product of the company at that time - the ALPA rubbing alcohol - was such a hit, that in 1938 there were 196 employees necessary to meet the demand. After the second World War the company moved in 1948 to the city of Velké Mezirici. Today Alpa is one of the oldest and most prestigious cosmetics manufacturers in the Czech Republic. For fans of original nostalgic scents from the imperial era, the supply of Alpa as a true treasure trove. One can find here after shaves and eau de colognes with the scent of violet, lily of the valley, clove, Classique or Fougere.
