Severed Head Clay Pomade controls the hair for hours without setting as rigidly as a conventional hair gel. The style remains workable and can be refreshed or deliberately retextured with the fingers throughout the day.

Ultra-matte finish with bentonite clay

Bentonite clay absorbs excess oil from the hair and scalp, creating an exceptionally dry, matte finish. It adds considerable structure and definition without making the hair look greasy or visibly overloaded with styling product.

Carnauba wax and beeswax support the strong hold, help control frizz and preserve a degree of flexibility. Glycerin helps maintain moisture so that the hair does not feel unnecessarily brittle despite the clay’s powerful mattifying effect.

Reuzel’s botanical T-4 Tonic Blend of witch hazel, rosemary, horsetail and nettle complements the formula and contributes to a clean, balanced feel.

This is not the right pomade for a traditional high-shine slick back. Its strength lies in dry, modern hairstyles with clearly visible texture and separation.

Consistency and application

The sand-coloured clay has a firm, slightly grippy consistency. It requires a little pressure to scoop from the tin, but quickly becomes warm, smooth and workable between the palms.

For even application, begin with a small amount and build the product in several thin layers. This makes it easier to distribute from the roots to the ends and creates controlled texture without unnecessarily weighing down individual sections.

The Apple Salsa fragrance

Severed Head Clay Pomade features the popular Apple Salsa fragrance associated with Reuzel Pink Pomade. Fresh apple and lemon notes lead into a subtly spiced heart and a smooth, clean dry-down.

The fragrance is clearly noticeable during application, then becomes more restrained in the hair without dominating throughout the day.

Application

1. Scoop a small amount of clay from the tin.
2. Rub thoroughly between the palms until the product becomes warm and completely smooth.
3. Apply to dry or towel-dried hair, working from the crown towards the front.
4. Distribute evenly from the roots to the ends.
5. Use the fingers for roughed-up texture or a comb for a more controlled shape.
6. Gradually add another small amount if additional hold and definition are required.

Application to completely dry hair produces the strongest hold, most pronounced texture and driest matte finish. Application to towel-dried hair makes the clay easier to distribute and provides more time for controlled styling.

Washing out

Although the formula contains bentonite clay and several waxes, it is water-soluble and considerably easier to remove than a traditional oil-based clay pomade. Warm water removes a large proportion of the product, while shampoo is recommended for a complete cleanse.

Sweet Georgia Brown Cocoanut Oil Shampoo makes a suitable companion product for thoroughly removing clay, wax and styling residue while helping the hair remain manageable.

For dry or difficult-to-comb hair, a small amount of Sweet Georgia Brown Hair Tonic can be applied after washing as a leave-in conditioner. Allow the hair to dry completely before applying the clay pomade so that its hold and matte finish are preserved.
