Prospectors Crude Oil Pomade is the traditional oil-based pomade in the American brand’s range. While Prospectors is best known for modern water-based styling products, Crude Oil follows the classic structure of a traditional wax pomade.

The deliberately straightforward formula is based on petrolatum and microcrystalline wax. Hemp seed oil and phenyl trimethicone complement the formula, supporting smooth application and a polished, silky finish.

The generously sized 128 g tin also contains considerably more product than many other oil-based pomades.

Smooth application and traditional hold

Crude Oil has a soft-to-medium, waxy consistency and can be scooped from the tin with almost no resistance. It quickly becomes smooth between the palms and can then be distributed evenly through the hair.

Once applied, it provides the balanced performance expected from a traditional medium-hold pomade: enough control for neatly shaped hairstyles combined with comfortable flexibility and lasting combability.

The pomade does not dry out or set hard. This allows the hairstyle to be reshaped throughout the day using a comb or brush.

Natural satin shine

Compared with traditional high-shine pomades, the finish of Crude Oil is more understated. It gives the hair a polished, satin-like shine without making it appear excessively glossy or greasy.

How to use

Scoop a small amount of Crude Oil Pomade from the tin with your fingertips and rub it thoroughly between your palms. Distribute evenly through dry or slightly damp hair from the roots to the ends.

Applying the pomade to dry hair provides greater hold, texture and control. It distributes especially smoothly through slightly damp hair and creates a sleeker finish with slightly more shine.

Shape the hair as desired using a comb or brush. For additional hold, gradually apply more product in small amounts.

Buildup and washing out

As a traditional oil-based pomade, Prospectors Crude Oil cannot be removed completely with water alone. A light product residue – the typical buildup – can deliberately be used as a foundation for the following day’s hairstyle.

A little water or hair tonic makes the hair smooth and workable again the next morning. A smaller amount of fresh pomade is then usually sufficient. For complete removal, a thorough cleansing shampoo is recommended.
